Stravaganza: City of Masks

City of Masks is a book by Mary Hoffman.

It begins with with introducing the main character, Lucien. Lucien is a 15 year old boy who has Lleukemia and at the start of the book he is in hospital.
Lucien's father gives Lucien a book to write in as he is too sick to speak.
One day when Lucien falls asleep with the book in his hands he wakes up to find himself in 17th century Venice though it is called Belleza. Lucien is found in his 21st century pajamas by a girl named Arianna. She tells him that the festival of the Duchessa is on and if anyone finds out that he is not Bellazan he would be killed. Lucien becomes friends with Arianna and together they they have many adventures.
Lucien becomes an apprentice to the great scholar, Senator Radolfo. It just so happens that Radolfo is a Stravagate too. (A Stravagate is someone who can go from one world to another.)
All through the book Lucien travels from London to Belleza and this causes some trouble when he is captured by the di Chimici.
But you'll have to find out if Lucien escapes when you read the book!

I recommend this book to anyone my age or older, both guys and girls.
There are 4 books in the the series and all of them follow new Stravagates from the same world as Lucien.

Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire opens with the question:
How did he do it? a) He cheated b) He's lucky c) He's a genius
Through out the movie Jamal is asked questions on who wants to be a millionaire. Each question leads to a flash back of his younger life were he and his brother become orphans.
The movie's scenes cut from past to present with heart pounding music from A.R Rahman which adds another dimension to the train journey's and the anti-Muslim massacre of their mother. At the end it is revealed that he only went on the show to convince his childhood friend that he really was in love with her. The movie ends at the train station where Jamal an Lakita meet and yes, they do kiss.
This film gives a truthful insight into the world you wouldn't otherwise know about. I think everybody should see this even if action isn't their thing. The movie has a little bit of everything for everyone in it.
So you may ask what is the answer to How did do it? Well the answer is...........Go see the movie and you'll find out!
I give it 4 Stars!

Global Warming

What's the point of scientists constantly coming up with depressing, never ending predictions about the world frying up and not ever doing anything about it!

It seems that nearly every day, a new plan on how we can save the world from global warming comes from different scientists from around the world. The media then get hold of it and turn it into a horror story to scare us into little holes thinking the world's going to blow up!

What are the politicians doing to stop this "global warming" ?
I'm mean how are they even meant to decide on which theory on global warming is the right one? Once they do that how are are they going to convince us that this is really the right theory? Will it be 10 years before there's no going back or will it be 100 years?

All these questions and many more are going to be asked every day until its too late to do anything about it all because there are too many crazy haired professors out there to agree on which theory is correct!

About Me

Hi!

My name is Steph. I am currently in year 10 at the Samford Valley Steiner School.

First let me tell you about what I'm like.

I'm like two different people. Somedays all I like doing is sitting around and can't be bothered to do anything. Then other days I love going outside and walking, bike riding, swimming or just playing with my dog, Saphie.
At school I have lots of fun with my friends like Lucy (she made me say this). We get to do lots of fun stuff and we have really cool teachers. Last year we got to make a billy cart instead of doing maths. We got to ride it down the big hills even though our billy cart was a complete failure because it was only 2cm off the ground.
In summer when it's really hot we go down to the creek if we've had a big storm and have massive water fights. Most of the time I'm the first one to get wet because I love swimming and being wet.
At school I'm really crazy most of the time but if you talk to people who know me outside school they'll probably say I'm really quiet.
I have a job at the Samford Pool and I have to clean the toilets which is pretty gross but I get to go swimming whenever I like. Having a job used to be pretty cool until the novelty of it sort of wore off.
I've recently started rowing and it'd really fun. I do it at Commercial Rowing Club in Brisbane.
Anyway that's enough for now!
Bye.
